Tóm tắt Human being is the interesting and familiar topic to many languages, especially in both Vietnamese and English idioms. The image of women – the Muse in literature, one of the most typical topic that literature has mentioned but is not always understood clearly in both oral and written communication. There are some researches about women idioms but no research is studied on the English and Vietnamese women image from a cross-cultural perspective. This study is designed to point out the semantic and cultural features of English and Vietnamese idioms relating to women then find out the similarities and differences of those features in social interaction, in child bearing and in personal relationship. To reach the aim, some methods are used: descriptive method, comparative method and analytical, synthetic method. Data used for analysis, description and comparison in this study were mainly collected through a number of English idioms and a nearly doubled number in Vietnamese. From giving a full account of similarities and differences of the semantic and cultural features in English and Vietnamese idioms, the findings of the study would be a practical source of material for English idiom learners.
