Tóm tắt
| The study deals with the types of A study on English politeness strategies for
declining invitations with reference to the Vietnamese equivalents. The objectives
of study are to point out the similarities and differences between the English
politeness strategies and commonly employed them for declining invitations. The
data are analyzed based on the classification of social factors under study. The use
of politeness strategies is conducted with the focus on the number of politeness
strategies employed by the informants, the preferable politeness strategies, the
frequences of politeness strategies, and most importantly on the diversity and
degrees of impact of the social factors on the informants’ use of politeness
strategies. This research is conducted by using descriptive and contrastive analysis
method. The review of literature deal with so far holds an significant importance
in terms of providing the solid theoretical background for as well as setting up the
analytical framework for the data collection procedure of thesis.
The results are also useful in teaching foreign languages. They will enable
the foreign language teacher to decide on the language forms his students are
supposed to learn. It is, first, essential for teachers to make students aware of
cultural similarities and differences for declining invitations in Vietnamese
culture and the cultures where the target language is spoken. |
