Tóm tắt This research is carried out to find out the syntactic and semantic features of DECIDING verb group in English with reference to their Vietnamese equivalents as well as providing some possible implications for learning, teaching and translating English DECIDING verb group. To conduct the study, the author uses descriptive and contrastive methods to analyze examples cautiously. With the small test at Lao Cai high school for gifted students is pointed out that high percentage of errors made by students that cause from their misunderstanding the syntactic and semantic features of the DECIDING verb group. A lot of students don’t understand clearly about the sentence patterns of DECIDING verbs. These findings can lead to the conclusion that different meanings created by one lexeme are caused by different contexts in each situation. This improve the fact that when supporting students with the verbs, the meanings of each verb must be clearly given in concrete contexts with proper Vietnamese references.
