Tóm tắt The study aims at investigating syntactic and semantic features of English idioms containing verbs “go” and “come” with reference to their Vietnamese equivalents in order to point out the syntactic and semantic features of English idioms containing verbs “go” and “come”, then find out similarities and differences between English idioms containing verbs “go” and “come” and their Vietnamese equivalents. In order to achieve the mentioned-above aims, some different research methods will be applied, they are descriptive method, contrastive method, qualitative method and quantitative method. The findings of the study showed that English idioms containing verbs “go” and “come” and their Vietnamese equivalents can share common structure and common semantic features of idioms, but may have different syntactic features that reflect various meanings depending on the situation in which they are used. Based on the results of the survey, common errors made by English learners are found out. In addition, this study also offers some implications which could be beneficial for teaching and learning English idioms more effectively. A further implication resulting from the findings included in the study could be equally beneficial for teachers and learners who would like to expand their knowledge
