Tóm tắt The study aims at identifying the lexical ambiguity, finding the typical similarities and differences of lexical ambiguity in English poems with reference to Vietnamese in order to help teachers of English and learners disambiguate when teaching and learning English. This research focuses on two main sources of lexical ambiguity in English poems including homonymy and polysemy with reference to Vietnamese. The study uses qualitative, quantitative and contrastive approaches as major methods to analyze the main sources of English lexical ambiguity in comparison with Vietnamese. As the result, 250 cases of lexical ambiguity were investigated that homonymy exists in the poems much more than polysemy. The study suggests some possible solutions learners to avoid lexical ambiguity after dissecting common errors and causes of these errors based on the results of the test and interviews. The findings of the study are expected to help both Vietnamese learners seek out the suitable ways to avoid lexical ambiguity
